Government agrees on 15% COLA with organised labour effective July 1

The government and striking labor unions have agreed and reached an agreement on a 15% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) that will be paid to all public sector employees.

It takes effect retroactively from July 1, 2022

Agreement on the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) 

Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, announced at a press briefing on Thursday the following:

  • The Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will be paid by Government at a rate of 15% of base pay.
  • That the effective date of the payment of COLA is 1st July 2022
  • That all industrial actions underway and threats of same will be called off immediately and that Labour would return to work forthwith.

Background 

This was the third meeting since the demand for COLA began between the government and labor unions.

Tuesday’s meeting between the two sides was adjourned due to the refusal of some labor unions to end their strike before negotiations begin. You check everything you need to know about COLA for Teachers in Ghana.
