Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president of Ghana, is concerned that citizens are not fully aware of the government’s efforts to digitize the country. He has emphasized on the importance of the Ghana Card by choosing it over 1000 interchanges, which doesn’t also sit well with some people.
According to Dr. Bawumia, who was delivering remarks at the Accra Business School’s Baatson campus in Accra to launch two new high-level IT programs, digitalization is a tool that the government is using to reshape the economy.
Many of Ghana’s difficulties have been solved thanks to digitalization, he remarked. In further statements, Dr. Bawumia argued that the national ID card is better than 1,000 interchanges.
“We have implemented a national identification system and today we have 16 million Ghanaians with unique identities and that is a major transformation. And sometimes a lot of people don’t even appreciate what the impact of the Ghana Card is.
“But if you gave me 1000 interchanges and a Ghana Card, I will choose the Ghana Card because it is more impactful,” the Vice President Stated.

Many social media users, however, were offended by his statement. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been trending on Twitter after he stated that the Ghana Card was preferable to road interchanges in Ghana’s desire for growth.
Netizens questioned how the Ghana Card could help development when infrastructure upgrades like interchanges are so important.
Good roads, particularly in rural regions, some also said; may boost the agricultural industry more than Ghana Card, despite the latter’s importance in the country.
