A gang of thieves, arrested for raiding a store and making off with crates of alcohol, have met a somewhat funny punishment, they were forced to drink everything they stole.
The culprits caught the following day were presented with two choices: either consume all the stolen alcohol on the spot or endure ‘umphakathi,’ a form of local community justice known for its forceful nature.
The video showed the thieves grappling with the hefty amount of pilfered alcoholic beverages.
In addition, the crates were said to be valued at around 14,000 South African Rand. The store owner, angered by the theft, forced the thieves to drink all the alcohol they had stolen.
“Thieves broke in and stole alcohol worth 14k. They were caught a day later with the drinks. The owner said they must drink it all in one go or face umphakathi. The thieves are struggling,” read the video’s caption.
Social media has also been abuzz with humorous counteractions. Many are curious to know the output after the thieves were coerced into drinking numerous bottles of alcohol.
The video caused people to doubt the different forms of justice and how community administers justice.
