Jada Pinkett Says She’s Separated From Will Smith Since 2016

Jada Pinkett and Will Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith disclosed that she and husband Will Smith have been living “entirely separate lives” since 2016. In an upcoming NBC News primetime special, Pinkett Smith explained that they hadn’t publicly revealed their separation. She claimed it was because they were still working on their relationship.

The couple, married since 1997, remains legally married but has been navigating their personal journeys apart. The state of their union has been under scrutiny. This was particularly after singer August Alsina revealed a romantic involvement with Pinkett Smith in 2020.

During the 2022 Academy Awards, Will Smith’s slap of presenter Chris Rock, prompted by a joke about Pinkett Smith’s hair loss due to alopecia, added more fuel to the public’s fascination with their marriage.

In a recent interview, Jada Pinkett Smith confessed that she initially thought the Oscars incident was a skit. She explained that their marriage had faced multiple challenges, with both expecting the other to fulfill certain ideals.

Despite the challenges, Pinkett Smith emphasized her commitment to the marriage and shared insights into her life and marriage in her forthcoming memoir, “Worthy,” set to release on October 17th.
