A final verdict has been released by an Accra Circuit Court fining Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal in the music industry, to an amount of GHc3,600.
Medikal first appeared in court on November 26, 2021, and initially pled not guilty to the crime, but then changed his plea to avoid a harsh penalty.
He said that he had no idea that flashing a pistol in a social media video was against the law, and that he had made a mistake.
Medikal’s lawyers also filed a request for the musician’s gun to be released, but the court, presided over by His Honour Emmanuel Essandoh, ignored the plea and instead imposed his sentence in response to the rapper’s change of heart about his original admission.
After pleading guilty to the allegation of exhibiting a pistol in public, the musician was sentenced to the fine.
The charge was read to Medikal, and he pleaded guilty to the charge of displaying weaponry and ammunition in a public place, that is on social media, resulting in the judge condemning him on his own plea by fining him to an amount of GHc 3,600 or sending him to prison for nine months should he defy the order
