On Sunday, June 18, 2023, the Madagascar and Ghana will meet again at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The team managed by Nicolas Dupuis, currently sitting in last place in Group E, has yet to win any of its four qualification games.
In June of 2022, Madagascar played Ghana in their first game in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations. They lost 3-0.
Four days later, at the Kianja Barea Mahamasina, the Barea were held to a 1-1 draw by Angola, with goals from Gelson Dala and Njiva Rakotoharimalala.
Unfortunately, they then lost twice against Central African Republic, first by a score of 3-0 in Antananarivo on March 23 and then by a score of 2-0 at the Stade de la Reunification four days later.
Madagascar’s hopes of qualifying for the AFCON for the first time since 2019 were dashed after they finished last in Group E, five points behind third-placed Angola.
Ghana, on the other hand, is on the verge of securing their ninth consecutive appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations after enjoying an undefeated campaign in qualifying for the 2023 tournament.
After opening their group with an easy victory against Madagascar, the Black Stars were defeated to a dismal 1-1 tie by Central African Republic three days later.
This game is an important one for both sides.
