A peculiar incident occurred when a man reportedly mistakenly shoots himself while dreaming of a robbery according to the New York Post.
Mark M. Dicara, a 62-year-old resident of Illinois, was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg in his home in April, according to law enforcement authorities.
Dicara explained to detectives that he had awakened in the middle of the night due to a nightmare about being robbed. This lead him to retrieve his .357 Magnum Revolver. Unfortunately, in his state of sleepiness, he unintentionally fired the gun, injuring himself in the leg. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated that the gunshot startled him awake from the dream.
Upon investigation, it was determined that there had been no actual burglary. The bullet had struck his own leg before landing on the bed. However, Dicara faced legal charges for possessing a handgun while his Illinois-required handgun Owners Identification card was suspended. The reasons behind the suspension remain unclear.
Furthermore, authorities accused Dicara of negligently using a firearm. He posted a $150,000 bond and was granted bail, with a court setting his date for June 29.
