The news hitting the media today is that a man has been jailed 2 Years For Sharing intimate Video of ex Gf. Gilbert Asemuasa, a 24-year-old motorbike rider in Akatsi, Volta Region, has been sentenced to two years in jail for sharing his former fiancé’s private video on social media.
The District Court found him guilty of non-consensual sharing of an intimate image. This is outlined in Section 67 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020. According to Chief Inspector Joseph Ajongbah, three years ago, Asemuasa recorded his ex-partner’s private area without her knowledge.
Despite her attempts to end the relationship, he threatened her. She even received a call from an unknown number threatening to expose her.
After filing a formal complaint, Asemuasa was arrested and admitted to taking the video. He however denied sharing it on social media.
Through investigations, he was convicted and sentenced to two years of imprisonment with hard labor. The case highlights the legal consequences and the serious emotional distress caused by the non-consensual sharing of private images.
