According to reports, the deceased refused to pay the increased fare and complained the whole way there. The driver became so enraged that he took the passengers back to the Lapaz bus station from which he had first picked them up for them to pick a trotro which soothes their expectations.
The driver, his mate, and their coworkers at the bus station ordered everyone off the bus, but the victim remained where he was in the trotro, refusing to get down.
The result was an altercation at the bus station involving the deceased, the driver, and his mate.
According to the witnesses, the fatal strike was a single punch to the face after several blows had already been exchanged. He slipped and died from a fatal head impact on a pavement.
After his death, his body was sent to the morgue.
