New GES Single Spine Salary Structure

New GES Single Spine Salary Structure

As it stands now, there is a New GES Single Spine Salary Structure. The single spine salary structure (SSSS) for teachers is a wage policy established in 2010 by the Ghanaian government. Its main purpose is to provide uniform remuneration for all employees of the same job group within the public sector. This wage policy also seeks to remove any inequalities in pay among individuals with similar qualifications and experience.

More About The SSSS

Under this system, all public school teachers will receive a standardized monthly salary that corresponds to their job group, instead of the previously-used multiple tiers of wages for varying positions. The structure incorporates four levels, based on teacher education level, number of years of teaching experience and position held (principal or teacher).

In order to benefit from the new salary structure, teachers must have earned a relevant academic degree at a recognized institution, acquired an appropriate license or certificate issued by Ghana’s National Teaching Council and acquired at least three years’ teaching experience.

In terms of the actual implementation of the policy, it should be noted that some factors may still affect salary differences among public school teachers such as working hours and distance traveled to schools. However, all in all the Single Spine Salary Structure ensures that qualified and experienced public school teachers are fairly compensated in relation to each other.
