Position Description:
- The Operations Manager oversees the implementation of the Mining Operations strategy under the direction of the Chirano General Manager while ensuring alignment with the organization’s overarching objective.
- Create short-, mid-, and long-term business plans for the mines to promote excellent stakeholder and employee satisfaction while ensuring sustained mining operation expansion and maximizing operational efficiencies, safety, and profitability.

Important Duties:
- In order to maximize safety, operational efficiencies, and financial success, you are in charge of the day-to-day operations of the mine in both development and production.
- Establish performance goals and benchmarks, keep an eye on total employee and/or contract worker performance, and manage it.
- Manage the yearly operating and capital budgets for mine operations in a way that is compatible with the Company’s specified financial standards and strategic planning procedure.
- Develop and implement strategies that help mining operations expand, making sure that these strategies are connected to the organization’s overarching plan.
- Provide guidance and support to all other departments impacted by modifications to mine operations, and via collaboration with other departments, contribute to overall mine management.
- Establish the necessary manpower and staffing levels for mine operations.
- Make sure the organization has a thorough and effective succession management strategy in place. Determine the skillsets needed for succession roles and high-potential candidates.
- Accountable for budgeting, strategic business planning, and forecasting.
- Develop the mining team’s skills to improve the mine operation’s capacity to carry out its financial and operational strategies; make the most of its strengths, spot any gaps, and fill them as needed.
- To ensure compliance with safe operating procedures, evaluate the operation’s policies and instructions.
- Set safety and training requirements with the safety department’s support.
- Perform any additional tasks that the general manager may assign.
Required Skills or Experience:
- A mining engineering bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited university.
- Mine Manager Competency Diploma from the Mining Commission
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience working as a mine manager or an equivalent position in an underground and open pit mining setting
- Further specialized education or training in operations management, risk assessment, safety management, or continuous improvement
- Must be familiar with and comprehend the Mining Inspection Act and Regulations, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and the Duty of Care Standards.
- Must possess in-depth knowledge of mining operations, engineering, and technical services, as well as a track record of excellence in personal and professional safety.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and mineral processing would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of various open-pit and underground mining techniques, including the use of explosives, ground support, and backfilling. Therefore, it is desired that subterranean mine operations have a greater skill level.
- Applying standards, policies, and procedures pertaining to privacy and the protection of sensitive data is necessary.
- Working understanding of ventilation concepts, mining planning, surveying, and rock mechanics.
- Capable of using Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Financial (cost) management expertise is essential, as well as familiarity with budgeting, planning, and scheduling.
- Management expertise with a diversified workforce (language, cultural, religious, etc)
- The capacity to supervise contract management and contractor administration.
- Management abilities with the capacity to include and educate all direct reports.
- The capacity to implement appropriate discipline when called for and to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- High standards of professionalism, tact, respect for privacy, and openness in daily work ethics.
- Flexible schedules, including night shifts, and a track record of successfully handling pressure.
