Sonko passionately fought for this brilliant but unlicensed legal mind. He pledged that Brian would willingly cooperate with any police investigation, accompanied by legal representatives.
Brian Mwenda came under the radar of the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) because he posed as a lawyer without a valid license. He defied the odds, practicing law for years, representing clients before several Kenyan courts until his apprehension.

Brian Mwenda has won all 26 cases he handled before he was discovered to be an illegal practitioner of the law. This came as a dismay to almost everyone who heard the news. He left people amazed as he displayed so much prowess in the field even though he had zero law school education.
In his first statement post-arrest, Mwenda was grateful to all his supporters. He promised to clear his name when his day in court arrives. He is optimistic about his standing in the legal arena.
