COVID Surge Hits China – WHO

Covid surge

COVID surge hits china, says the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hospitals in China look to be getting busier as a new Covid-19 epidemic hitting the nation grow.

Dr. Micheal Ryan, the head of WHO’s emergency response, has encouraged China to share more details regarding the virus’ most recent outbreak.

“In China, what’s been reported is relatively low numbers of cases in ICUs, but anecdotally ICUs are filling up.

“We’ve been saying this for weeks that this highly infectious virus was always going to be very hard to stop completely, with just public health and social measures,” he said.

During the weekly news conference in Geneva, WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed his “grave concern” about the developing situation in China.

He pleaded for particular information on the severity of the illness, hospital admissions, and the need for special treatment, the BBC reported.

As the latest Covid surge hits China, hospitals in Beijing and other places have been filling up recently.

Fears of a high mortality rate among the elderly, who are particularly vulnerable, have grown as a result of the sharp increase in cases.

Despite the increase, the official statistics indicate that only five individuals died on Tuesday and two on Monday from Covid.
