A 70-year-old woman, Safina Namukwaya, has made history as she successfully delivers twins — a boy and a girl — through in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.
The Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala successfully carried out a caesarean delivery on Wednesday. The hospital announced it on its Facebook page.
The post features the old woman’s courage and the memorable nature of what had happened.
IVF is a fertility treatment that assists individuals with fertility issues. It involves removing an egg from the woman’s ovaries, fertilizing it with sperm in a controlled laboratory setting, and then placing the fertilized egg (embryo) back into the woman’s womb for growth.
The hospital noted that Namukwaya’s achievement establishes her as the oldest woman in Africa to give birth.
This story not only cheers the success of medical intervention but also shows the determination of individuals facing fertility challenges.
Namukwaya’s journey is definitely an inspiration to others. It also proves that age is not necessarily a barrier to achieving parenthood with the assistance of advanced medical techniques.
Social media has been left in disbelief as this 70-year-old woman gives the biggest surprise this year with her new-born twins.
