A financial boost has been given to Ghana’s Black Stars in preparation for their World Cup “Qatar 2022” campaign.
Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars has got a $2million deal ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this month.
Prior to the team’s participation in the competition, telecommunications heavyweight MTN Ghana contributed the cedi equivalent of $2 million to the team.
In its performance report for the nine months that concluded on September 30, 2022, MTN Ghana stated that it was pleased to be the Black Stars’ headlining sponsor.
Prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that MTN Ghana would serve as the Black Stars’ primary sponsor.
On November 3, a ceremony at the GFA Secretariat served as the official unveiling of the telecom company.
During a brief ceremony, Selorm Adadevoh, the CEO of MTN Ghana, declared that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had a significant role in securing the $2 million sponsorship agreement.
According to the statement, the funds would help the Black Stars represent the country with pride.
“MTN will join all Ghanaians in supporting this national agenda, and we would like to wish the Black Stars the very best as they make the nation proud in Qatar,” the report said. “As a nation connected through football and with rich football history, we would like to wish the Black Stars the very best.”
H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had a courtesy visit from the MTN Group delegation at his hotel while in New York for the 77th UNGA in September. During their encounter with him, Akufo-Addo asked the delegation of the organization to support the Black Stars’ World Cup preparations.
