- Applicants applying for a master’s program should have a bachelor’s degree
- Those applying for PhD programs must possess a master’s degree

Applicants must meet academic and English language criteria for the applicable research degree.This is equal to a high distinction average (H1/H1E or First Class Honours per MGE’s admissions assessment) from a recognized university.

Each scholarship pays 100% of tuition expenses as well as a living allowance of the following amounts:
- RM2,800 per month for a Master of Engineering Science (Research) (up to 24 months of candidature).
- RM2,800 per month for a doctor of philosophy (up to 39 months of candidature).
