The recent incident involving the abduction of a deacon from the Ghanaian Pentecost Church in South Africa has taken a revealing turn.
According to sources from the Church of Pentecost, it’s now evident that the kidnappers of the Pentecost church deacon who audaciously disrupted a church service, robbed the congregants of their personal belongings, and kidnapped the Deacon (identity protected), were driven by a demand for ransom.
These criminals demanded a hefty sum of $160,000 for the release of the kidnapped deacon.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Charles Owiredu, happily announced the deacon’s safe release on November 1, 2023. This was only a few days after his abduction.
Initially, the kidnappers had set a strict deadline of four days for the church to meet their financial demands. They warned of dire consequences otherwise.
However, thanks to the viral circulation of footage depicting the harrowing incident, their resolve faltered. Their sinister plans were eventually thwarted.
Remarkably, it was the global attention to this incident that dissuaded the church from making any payments. In an unexpected turn of events, the kidnappers released the deacon at an undisclosed, remote location. It was a kind-hearted individual who found him by the roadside. He also ensured his safe transport to the nearest police station.
Thankfully, they found the deacon unharmed and without restraints. He simply appeared disoriented, as he was unfamiliar with his surroundings.
The Good Samaritan’s timely intervention led to the alerting of both the Ghana High Commission and the church authorities. This ensured the deacon’s return to safety.
