Cases of monkeypox confirmed in Ghana

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 5 monkeypox cases in the Eastern, Bono, and Greater Accra regions.

A Ghanaian who traveled to the United States from Ghana was one of the victims of the monkey pox.

Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health service said that the instances were discovered after the testing of 12 suspects, one of which was reported from the Western Region.

Since the outbreak of Monkeypox began on May 24, 2022, he they have tested 12 probable patients in Ghana. Five (5) instances were confirmed in three regions – Eastern, Bono, and Greater Accra – as of this writing, and none of the incidents had resulted in any deaths.

He then noted that Monkeypox has been a hot topic on social media recently, and the one from the Western Region was probably the most well-known and that resulted in a negative result.

However, Dr Kuma-Aboagye noted that Ghana has not reached the stage yet where the nation needs to call for vaccination.
