A new clip is moving around online brandishes Asantehene as he heads for the funeral of Berekumhene with a massive entourage.
The ongoing final funeral rites for the late paramount chief of Berekum Traditional Area, Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, will see the presence of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
The Asantehene is both the overlord and kingmaker of the Berekum Traditional Area within Asanteman. As such, he is required to partake in the burial ceremony.
A video from Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio displayed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his convoy as he moves from Manhyia to Berekum to attend the funeral of Berekumhene.
The convoy consisted of over 30 vehicles. These included 20 Toyota Land Cruisers, one Range Rover, and two Toyota Tundra. He was also escorted by at least three police motor riders and other police vehicles. Over 10 VIP buses had departed earlier for Berekum.
On the other hand, the Sunyani High Court has issued an injunction barring the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Nana Agyeman Badu, from participating in the burial rites. The court’s decision aims to prevent clashes and maintain order during the burial.
The legal action was requested by Osabarima Kyere Yeboah Darteh II of the Berekum Traditional Council. He was worried about the likelihood of disruptions to peace due to conflicting attendance plans.
