His Royal Majesty Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti Kingdom, is said to have destooled the Kwasohene Nana Nketia Boampon, the Chief of the Ejisu Kwaso.
This is the second time in recent times that His Royal Majesty Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has ordered a chief to be destooled.
Multiple sources claim that on Thursday, June 8, 2023, Otumfuo ordered the destoolment of Nana Nketia before the Asanteman Traditional Council tribunal during a sitting.
The Kwasohene is said to have appeared at the tribunal because of an alleged payment of GHC120,000.00 made to him by a royal at Kwaso named Mr. Gyimah who had shown interest in a vacant Dikro Stool at Kwaso.
The amount is said to have been the initial payment of GHC300,000.00 agreed upon between Nana Boampon and the said Mr Gyimah for the vacant stool.
The sum in question is alleged to be the initial payment of GHC300,000.00 for the vacant stool that Nana Boampon and the aforementioned Mr. Gyimah agreed upon.
In the face of rigorous questioning by the Asantehene, the Kwasohene is claimed to have committed the abominable crime of perjury by first denying the charge and then admitting to taking the specified sum.
He is also suspected of selling many parcels of land at once.
The Asantehene promptly ordered his removal from his position as chief of Kwaso.
Kwasohene’s destoolment occurs just a few days after the Asantehene destooled Nana Owusu Agyeman I, chief of Antoa.
Multiple sources within the Manhyia Palace claim that on Monday, May 29, 2023, the Asantehene decided against the 96-year-old and ordered his destoolment as the chief of Antoa.
The Antoahene, Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman, who had been in power for nearly two decades before naming his nephew as his successor, is said to have acted outside of protocol.
When his relatives and elders told him he needed the king’s blessing before proceeding, he allegedly denigrated the Asantehene in response.
On the heels of Otumfuo’s judgement on Monday night, the town of Antoa swiftly initiated the ceremonial rites for the destoolment of Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman.
The chief is also accused of selling land many times without permission, among other alleged wrongdoings.
