Blue Book Traineeship programme in Europe

The Blue Book Traineeship program is currently open for hiring. This opportunity is very competitive and is best suited for young graduates. The selected candidates will either be placed in Luxembourg or Belgium to work for a period of five (5) months.

The good news about this program is that it opens twice a year, so if you don’t get in the first time, you can attempt again in the same year. Registration for traineeships starting in October opens in February, while trainings commencing in March open between July and August.

General Criteria:

  • Applicants to be considered are those who have successfully completed a standard 3-year higher education which is equivalent to a Bachelor’s cycle
  • There is no age limit
  •  You must have no previous job experience of any sort, in excess of 6 weeks in any EU institution, body or agency, delegation, with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), or Advocates General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (EUCJ)
  • Candidates should have a very good knowledge of languages (especially EU official languages).

Specific Requirements For The Available Divisions

1. Administrative 

As a trainee in this area, one of the languages you have knowledge in should be a working dialect: English, French, German at C1 or C2 level as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and a second one at B2 level at least as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. For non-EU nationals, only one procedural language is required at C1 or C2 level.

2. Translation 

  • For the translation traineeship in the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) – you must be able to translate into your main/target language (normally your mother tongue), from two other official EU languages (‘source languages’):
    • your main/target language must be one of the official EU languages
    • your first source language for translation must be a working language of the EU: English, French or German (C level or mother tongue)
    • your second source language can be any of the official EU languages with at least B2-level proficiency

The living allowance for the training sessions is about €1.418,20 per month.
