The British High Commission (BHC) in Accra has opened applications for the recruitment of a Climate & Nature Officer. The Commission is offering experienced professionals an opportunity to contribute to Ghana’s climate, forestry, and environmental sustainability agenda while supporting the UK’s international climate commitments.
The successful candidate will join the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) as a Senior Executive Officer (SEO) and work closely with the Government of Ghana, development partners, civil society organisations, and the private sector to advance climate and nature initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Climate & Nature Officer will provide strategic leadership on climate diplomacy, forestry, biodiversity conservation, and carbon market initiatives. The role includes coordinating UK-funded environmental programmes in Ghana, building partnerships with key institutions such as the Forestry Commission and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), supporting climate finance initiatives, and representing the British High Commission during high-level climate engagements, including COP-related activities.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Climate Change, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Governance, Environmental Economics, or a related field.
- At least three years of professional experience in climate change, sustainable development, forestry, carbon markets, or environmental policy.
- Strong knowledge of Ghana’s climate and environmental policy landscape.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Previous experience managing climate or development programmes and established relationships with relevant environmental institutions in Ghana will be an advantage.
