The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is accepting applications for its Research Internship Program in Japan. The opportunity is open to eligible bachelor’s and master’s students and graduates who want to gain hands-on research experience in an international research environment.
The internship allows participants to work in an OIST laboratory related to their academic background and research interests, with opportunities across fields including physics, chemistry, neuroscience, marine sciences, environmental science, mathematics, molecular biology and quantum science.

What the Internship Covers
Selected research interns receive support that includes:
- Round-trip airfare

- Internship allowance of JPY 2,400 per working day

Who Can Apply?
Applicants should:
- Have an academic background relevant to their preferred OIST research unit.
- Be in the final two years of a bachelor’s programme, enrolled in a master’s programme, or hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Obtain approval from their home institution if currently enrolled.
- Not be current or former PhD students, as the programme is intended for those seeking additional research experience before doctoral study.

- 1–3 recommendation letters from eligible faculty members
