The study interestingly has confirmed an age-old practice; mixing tomato paste and cola drink to produce more blood. A number of research confirms it is able to manage anaemia.
A study conducted by researchers at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, KNUST has revealed mixtures of tomato paste and cola drink increases blood levels.
A blend of tomato paste and cola drink raises blood levels significantly, showing anti-anemic potential.
A study undertaken by academics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology came to this result.
The researchers wanted to look into other options for boosting blood levels in anaemic patients besides the traditional use of blood tonics.
The mixture is also believed to have enhanced reproductive women’s menstrual flow.
Researchers from KNUST’s Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology discovered a considerable increase in red blood cell volume in their investigation.
Professor Felix Mills-Robertson claims that certain of the mixture’s components, such as Vitamin C and Iron, help to raise blood levels.
“Ascorbic acid, folate, vitamin B12, magnesium, and vitamin D are the key nutritional elements of cola beverages and tomato paste. These components produce a rise in blood and hemoglobin levels by stimulating the production of red blood cells.
“The concoction is safe for human consumption and has no toxins,” he claimed.
With half a billion women of reproductive age suffering from anemia, the combination is beneficial.
The mixture could potentially lessen the over 45 percent incidence of anaemic pregnant women in Ghana, as scientists attempt to expand the trial to include expectant mothers.
It may also help to reduce the number of maternal fatalities caused by anemia in Ghana
Surprisingly, a study published in the Scientist journal backs up the usage of this age-old cure.
Several lives have been saved by a mixture made from scoops of tomato paste diluted in a few millilitres of coca drink beverage in Ghana.
