In what was described as the ‘finals before the finals’, Prempeh College has retained their seed, by virtue of making it to the quarter-finals of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), and has began their title defence journey as reigning champions.
Prempeh College came back to defend their trophy, and not even the contestants from Saint Thomas Aquinas could stop them.
The first contest that happened on Sunday, October 16th featured Prempeh College, St. Thomas Aquinas and Ofori Panin SHS.
While many were tipping Aquinas to revenge the many defeats it has suffered from Prempeh, others were just hoping Ofori Panin could cause an upset or ‘shockprise’.
Initially from the contest, Prempeh was already in a comfortable lead for a victory. Meanwhile, an unimpressive St. Thomas Aquinas trailed behind Ofori Panin at the end of round one.
Aquinas, trying to fulfill their campaign to slaughter and ‘cook’ Prempeh tried every means possible to close gaps, but it just wasn’t their day.
At the end of the contest, the five-time winners of the competition retained their seed, a record unbroken since the new quiz system.
On Wednesday, Prempeh College will feature in the quarter-final with Mawuli School and Aburi Presby SHTS.
End of Contest scores
Prempeh College – 46
St. Thomas Aquinas – 40
Ofori Panin SHS – 25
Prior to the start of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ 2022) on Monday, October 10 2022, Primetime launched a new tune for the NSMQ 2022.
This is a beautiful innovation of the old theme song for NSMQ we have known over the years.
“…..we know that the song has become synonymous with the competition everywhere you go. Anytime, anybody hears this song, they think of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). And so we want to make the song look a lot more like us as Ghanaians, ” said Nana Akua Ankomah-Asare, the Managing Director of Primetime Limited.
Nana Akua explained the rationale behind adopting or the making of the new tuneful theme for this year’s quiz and beyond.
