Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana during the World Cup trophy display in Ghana has stated the country has waited for 12 years to exact revenge against Uruguay.
Like many Ghanaians, the President has his sights set on the grudge match against the Uruguayans.
President Akufo-Addo expressed the hopes of the nation ahead of the rematch, saying Ghanaians had waited 12 years to exact revenge for the traumatic loss to the Uruguayans in a penalty shootout.
President Akufo-Addo stated the Uruguayans will lose this time because of the infamous handball incident by former Barcelona forward Luis Suarez, which prevented Ghana from reaching the 2010 World Cup semifinals in South Africa.
“We have also had to wait for twelve (12) years to get revenge against Uruguay, and we assure them that, this time, the hand of Suarez will not save them against the Black Stars of Ghana. They are going down!!,” he decals amidst hopes.
However, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated Ghana will be the first country to win the FIFA World Cup in Africa.
“I am of the firm conviction that Ghana will not only participate in the competition but will make the whole nation and by extension the African continent proud, with a great performance.
“I, therefore, want to urge all Ghanaians, in conclusion, to throng the Accra Polo Court to view the trophy and to be part of history, before we finally bring the cup home on 18th December. We, who were the first to gain our freedom and independence from colonial rule, will be the first to bring the World Cup to Africa”, the President said.
The President stated this during a banquet on Saturday night in Accra as part of the World Cup trophy’s two-day tour of the nation in a speech that was read in his place by the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare.
In Group H of the World Cup, Ghana’s Black Stars are slated to play Portugal on November 24, South Korea on November 28, and Uruguay on December 2.
