The Director of Sports for University of Ghana has disclosed that some Premier League clubs are requesting to use the University’s stadium.
Dr. Bella Belo Bitugu, the director stated that the clubs have requested to use their sports stadium as their home venue for the second round of the soccer season.
Premier league clubs like Accra Great Olympics, Legon Cities, inter Allies, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have all successfully relied on the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue for the 2020/2021 football season.
Due to the high pressure and usage of the football venue; the teams and the sports authorities are looking for alternatives.
They have been forced to look for options as soon as possible.
In their quest for alternatives, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium has now become an option.
The director of sports is hopeful that the pitch is in good condition although it is not yet completed.
From the look of things, there is a possibility that the facility can be used for intended activities.
“In terms of using the stadium for league matches, yes there has been a request. It’s a long way and it depends on the efforts we put in to make it possible. It is doable but I don’t have the rights to allow and disallow but I think it is possible it can happen if we can get the things right”; he said in an interview with Joy Sports which was monitored by Everydaynewsgh
The Ghana Premier League has been on break since Sunday, March 6, 2021. Since then there’s been no action and it is scheduled to return on Friday, April 2, 2021.
