Jordan Ayew joins Black Stars camp ahead of AFCON 2021 qualifiers

Jordan

Ghanaian striker, Jordan Ayew has joined the Black Stars in training ahead of African cup of nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars have begun serious training  to battle South Africa and São Tomé next week the qualifiers. Charles Kwabla Akonnor, Black Stars coach, exempted  United Kingdom based Ghanaian players from the list. This is because of the unwillingness of UK-based clubs to release players for the qualifiers. South Africa for instance, is one of the countries on United Kingdom’s list ofcoronavirus hotspot areas. For this reason, Colchester United’s Kwame Poku was the only Ghanaian player who could join the team for thé two matches ahead. Clubs did not allow their players to participate in the qualifiers because a journey to South Africa would require a 10-day mandatory quarantine on their return to UK. This will cause the players to miss some of the club matches.

Though Jordan has joined the Black Stars at their camp, he would be left behind for the South African trip to prevent any 10 days quarantine on his return to UK. However, he would be present for the match against São Tomé in Accra. Arsenal star, Thomas Partey and Andre Dede Ayew will also be available for the match against São Tomé on March 28, 2021.

On Thursday, C.K. Akornor named 29-man squad ahead of the games against South Africa and São Tomé. Nonetheless, reports flooding in suggest that some of the players have refused to be part of the 29-man squad.

Ghana has not been able to win African can in a long while. The performance of the Black Stars team his gone down. We however hope that the teams qualifies and bring home the trophy.
