Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their quest to continue standing as a giant club in Ghana has recently resorted to making some changes.
They have appointed a new head coach to enable them improve on the field of play.
Asante Kotoko appointed Portuguese coach Mariano Barretto as the new head coach.
Mariano Barretto l’s appointment makes him the third coach of the Porcupine Warriors in this season.
The 64-year-old replaces Abdul Gazele who was formerly the head coach.
Barretto has quite some history in Ghana and he is back again hoping to make Kotoko flourish.
Barretto was in charge of Ghana’s senior team, the Black Stars between 2003 and 2004.
He left on quite a dramatic note after he failing to return to Ghana after battling South Africa away that time.
Ghana took the initiative and reported Mariano to FIFA after it was heard that he had moved to Portugal to join Maritimo.
Mariano Barretto is a man who has much experience in his work as a coach. This sends some kind of good gesture to Asante Kotoko as his experience can make them excel.
The Portuguese have so far managed about 12 teams and he last worked with Stumbras in Lithuania.
Barretto’s coming to Kotoko is expected to make a significant wave in the team.
His first task will probably be an away match against Eleven Wonders.
This will happen after the Ghana Premier League resumes activities in April.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko are Currently behind Karela by four points on the league table.
They are currently at the 4th position on the league table with 27 points and 16 matches played posing and advantage to move ahead on the table should they win.
