Ghana Qualifies for AFCON After a 1-1 Draw with South Africa

Blackstars

Ghana have successfully secured qualification to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

This is following a 1-1 draw in a clash with South Africa on Thursday.

There’s one round of group games still to play.

Ajax midfielder Kudus Mohammed first scored for Ghana and Brighton attacker Percy Tau later levelled it up for South Africa.

The match was played at the FNB Stadium at South Africa.

The Draw still keeps Ghana at the top of Group C with 10 points.

South Africa also has the same 10 points as Ghana but a point more than Sudan.

Ghana now has become the 12th country through to the finals next year. They join the host nation Cameroon, holders Algeria, Guinea, Senegal, Tunisia; Burkina Faso, Mali, Comoros, Egypt, Gambia and Gabon.

With respect to the match, South Africa was tipped the best in the first half as they dominated the first half.

In terms of possession and chances created, they were quite on top.

There were chances which could have been a goal for South Africa but the ball was found at the side of the net.

Also, there were powerful strikes against Ghana but was saved by the Goal Keeper.

The only Shot on target for Ghana was by the captain Mubarak Wakaso, whose free-kick was saved by the South African goalkeeper.

Ghana came to the Second Half with a whole new mentality to take over.

Not long after entry into the second half, Ghana scored the first goal of the game.

Kudus scored the amazing goal for the Black Stars after receiving a pass from right-back Benson Anang.

Two minutes after Ghana’s lead, South Africa leveled the game up by scoring.

Tau finished nicely a quick attack that was launched after Ghana equalized.

Both teams had some chances along the line but couldn’t turn that into a goal until the match finally ended.

Ghana have qualified straight foward to the cup of nations.

South Africa will be expected to win or draw against Sudan before they qualify as well. The match which will determine South Africa’s fate to Join Ghana will be played on Sunday.
