Applications for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarships for International Students are currently open. All students who are not EU/EEA citizens may now start their applications as of November 1, 2022.
The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship provides a number of international students from outside the European Economic Area with the opportunity to study for a Master’s degree at Utrecht University (UES). This scholarship is intended to support international students who have the desire to pursue a master’s degree at Utrecht University.

Selection Criteria
Eligible candidates will be selected for a scholarship based on the following criteria:
- Applicants must provide proof that they graduated in the top 10% of their class (such as a class ranking certificate, GPA with a grade distribution summary, or a statement/reference letter that has been approved by their university).
- The quality and relevance of your master’s program as well as your motivation letter will also be taken into account (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation).
- Applicants must be students who do not hold EU/EEA passport.
- If you are eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system then you cannot apply for this one
- Your secondary education and/or bachelor’s degree must have been earned outside of the Netherlands.
- You must have submitted an application for a master’s program that will begin on September 1, 2023.

Benefits:
- As determined by IND, scholarship awardees may have full tuition coverage or tuition fee coverage in addition to the required income for a year attached to a study permit (Immigration and Naturalisation Service).
- The scholarship is renewable for the second year of two-year master’s degrees.
