Transport fares will not be reduced despite fuel reduction – True Drivers Union

Transport fares

The True Drivers Union has broken silence about reduction of transport fares as people have stated calling on them to reduce their fares. The True Drivers union has stated that despite the reduction in fuel, they will not reduce their transport fares.

Public Relations Officer for the True Drivers Union, Yaw Barimah, said that there is no rationale for such a cut.

He stated to Nyankonton Mu Nsem of Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that drivers had not even examined the idea posed by Ghanaians.

He assured everyone that the current transit fees would not be changing.

“If a thief steals from you and you chase him down and he gives you back some of what he stole from you, do you celebrate and clap for him?” he asked.

He then said that “we are aware that the cost of fuel has decreased. We would desire to reduce transportation fares, but we are not prepared to do so. We will not even lower fares by one pesewa. There has been no change. As a result, we are unwilling to lower transportation fares.”

He argued that “why should we cut down transportation fares?” given the recent and ongoing increases in the price of fuel and spare components.

With this being said, transportation fares, despite the decrease or reduction in fuel, will not be reduced.
