Transport fares to go up by 30% – Drivers Association

Transport fares

The Coalition of Transport Operators has announced that transportation fares would be hiked by 30% from Monday, February 7.

Following a meeting with the sector Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, David Agboado, the Public Relations Officer of the Concerned Drivers Association, warned that passengers could expect an upward adjustment of transport charges commencing February 7, according to Citi News in Accra.

They gathered on Thursday at TUC, GPRTU headquarters, resolved to raise transportation fares by 30%. The current increase in fuel prices, increases in the price of products we consume, and government charges, among other factors, influenced their decision according to reports.

Following a gathering of 16 transportation unions on Thursday, February 3, 2022, the decision to raise fuel prices was made. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the recent increase in fuel costs and its impact on commercial transportation companies.

The Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU), the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), and the Concerned Drivers Association were among the transport unions.

The price of gasoline has been steadily rising at the pumps over the last few weeks, a scenario that many drivers have condemned as inconsiderate which is why the transport fares are expected to go up by a margin of 30%. According to the concerned drivers, the increases have a negative impact on their profit margins, causing hardship in their personal lives.
