In this post, we outline the different branches and departments of the Ghana Navy, highlighting the necessary qualifications need to join them. This is necessary for the ongoing 2025 Ghana Armed Forces recruitment Nationwide for interested candidates.
Category B – Ghana Navy Branches & Their Qualifications:
General Eligibility
1. Eligible applicant must:
a. Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.
b. Be of good character.
c. Be not less than 18 years of age and not more than 25 years for Non – Tradesmen and not more than 27 years for Tradesmen
by 30 December 2025.
d. Be medically fit by Armed Forces standards.
e. Be not married.
f. Be not bonded.
g. Be of minimum height of 1.68m (5’6″) for males and 1.57m (5’2″) for females. For Military Police only; be of a minimum height of 1.75m (5’9″) for males and 1.70m (5’7″) for females.
h. Must have six (6) Credits (Not less than Grade C6) at WASSCE including English and Mathematics.
i. Have six passes (Up to Grade D7 for Army Candidates in English and Mathematics and other 4 passes and grade C6 for Navy and Airforce in all subjects) at WASSCE or the requisite credit/passes in respective trade qualifications from GES at Intermediate or Advance Level.
Special Requirements
As a general rule, all applicants must fulfill the general eligibility criteria in addition to the requirements for the various divisions below:
a. Executive Branch

- Radar Plotters.
- Wireless Telegraphist.
b. Supply and Secretariat Branch
1. Writer (General Duties)
- Ghana Commercial Examination Certificate Stage II.
- Certificate/Diploma in Computer Software Application (MS Office) from a recognized institution.
- Stenographer GD II
2. Writer (Pay)
- RSA III in Accounting
- Diploma in Business studies (Accounting option)
3. Stores
- GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate in Storekeeping/Materials Management/Supply/ Logistics/Purchasing & Supply/Stores Management.
- CIPS level II.
- HND Purchasing and Supply.
4. Cooks/Stewards
- 6 Credits at WASSCE (Home Economics option) including English and Mathematics
- GES Intermediate Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Management.
- GES or COTVET Certificate II in Hospitality and Catering Management.
5. Tailors
- GES Intermediate Certificate in Tailoring.
- GES or COVET Certificate II in Tailoring.
- HND Fashion Design.
c. Technical Branch
In addition to the General Eligibility applicants must have Certificate in Computing or Information Technology (IT) from any recognised computing or IT Institution as a general requirement for all technical branch applicants.
1. Engineering Artificers and Mechanics
- 6 credits at WASSCE (Science Option) with Credit (not less than C6) including English and Mathematics
- HND in Mechanical Engineering
- Marine Engine Mechanics Certificate or equivalent from any recognized institution.
- City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or Equivalent certificate from recognised institutions in any of the following:
- Mechanical Engineering Craft and Advance Practice.
- Mechanical Engineering Technical Part Il and III. co.
- Advance/Ordinary Technician Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Electrical and Weapon Artificers and Mechanics
- 6 credits at WASSCE (Science Option) with Credit (not less than C6) in English and Mathematics.
- City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent certificate in any of the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering Technician Part I and II (Heavy Power Option).
- Advance/Ordinary Technician Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Power Option).
3. Shipwright Artificers and Mechanics
- 6 credits at WASSCE (Not less than C6) MetalWork/WoodWork/ Physics including English in and Mathematics.
- HND in wielding and fabrication, carpentry/woodwork or plumbing
- City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate in any of the following:
- Advance Craft in Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing Carpentry/Woodwork or Painting and Decoration or
- Advance or Intermediate Certificate in Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing, Carpentry/Woodwork or painting and Decoration
4. Radio Artificers and Mechanics
- 6 credits at WASSCE (Science Option) including English, Mathematics and Physics.
- HND in Electronic Engineering.
- City and Guilds or GES Technical Examination Unit Certificate or equivalent from recognised institutions in any of the following:
- Advance or Intermediate in Radio, Television and Electronics Servicing
- Electrical Engineering Technician Part II or III (Electronics Option).
5. Radio Technician
In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have Mathematics, Physics, Elective Mathematics and any of the following:
- City and Guilds Certificate in Electronics.
- City and Guilds Certificate in Telecommunications.
6. Line Technician
In addition to the General Eligibility applicants must have 6 credits (not less than Grade C6) at WASSCE including English and Mathematics and any of the following:
- Certificate in Fibre Optics Technology.
- Certificate in RF Engineering.
- Certificate in Satellite Communications
7. Refrigeration Mechanics
- City and Technical Examination certificate in Unit
- Certificate Refrigeration and/or Guilds or Air or GES equivalent conditioning
- Technology (Advance or Intermediate).
8. Vehicle Mechanics and Drivers
- GES Intermediate Certificate in Vehicle Mechanic and Driving.
- GES or COVET Certificate II in Vehicle Mechanic and
Driving - City and Guilds Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
9. Physical Training Instructors
Must be a skilled sportsman in at least two sports with proven participation at district or regional level in Ghana.

- Log on to the recruitment portal @ http://apply.mil.gh with any of the following browsers;

(2) Mozilla Firefox. - Read through the entry requirements thoroughly.
- Ensure your mobile phone’s Cell Broadcast Message Service is turned “ON”. This can be done by going through the following steps on your phone:

c. Page 3: Enter the results of WASSCE/SSCE and BECE including TWO required core subjects on your Certificate, that is; CORE MATHEMATICS AND CORE ENGLISH. Enter your WASSCE Index number, WASSCE results slip serial number, and BECE Index number. Upload only scanned copies of the following: WASSCE or Trade Certificate. NB: Each scanned document (Passport picture, WASSCE, Trade/Technical certificate,) to be uploaded, shall not exceed 1(One) Megabyte and should be in PDF format only.
- Click on the Preview Button to see a summary page of all data provided. Read through this page carefully and click on the back button, if there are any modifications to be made.
- Click on the submit button and expect an instant e-mail and text message, which includes your unique system generated Alpha Numeric Identification Number.
- Print and keep a copy of the generated report as you will be required to present it, if you are Shortlisted. However, if you lose your copy of the report, go back to the recruitment portal, click on the Check Details Tab, enter your unique identification number sent to you by SMS/E-Mail and order a re-print.
- Closing Date. Closing date for submission of all online applications is Friday 31 October 2025.
Administration
- Transportation/Feeding/Accommodation. Applicants are responsible for their own transportation, feeding and accommodation throughout the recruitment exercise.
