What happens to users with unregistered Sim Cards?
Graphic Online cited a credible source close to the SIM registration process who said that the new date and the methods would be notified early next week, but that the same punitive measures as seen earlier in September would be enforced once again.
On Friday morning, the NCA met with the telecoms to finalize the details, and the telcos confirmed their preparedness to proceed with the exercise to block the unregistered SIMs as of the deadline’s expiration on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Those who have already completed the first step in the registration process (that is, linking their Ghana Cards to their SIM cards via *404#) have been given till the end of the year [2022] to complete the second step.
People who haven’t registered their SIM cards at all will be unable to make or receive calls or use data services, among other things.
However, these unregistered users can begin the registration process by dialing *404# and will receive their unique codes via text message.
