University Teachers Association of Ghana UTAG

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has agreed to suspend its strike following an emergency meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) and Employment and Labour Relations Ministry.

This is contained in a memorandum of agreement between government and the Teachers Association.

In conjunction with the National Labour Commission, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations also agreed to discontinue all legal processes against the striking lecturers.

UTAG agrees to call off strike as NLC and Employment Ministry move to discontinue legal process

National Labour Commission secured the injunction against the strike, arguing that the law forbids UTAG from proceeding on the industrial action when negotiations are underway.

UTAG is demanding the implementation of a 2012 Single Spine package which put entry-level lecturers on a salary of $2,084.

Thus, in the memorandum, UTAG and government have agreed to begin negotiations on the matter from Monday, August 23, 2021.
