Emmanuel Mbachu, a 26-year-old factory hand, has been sentenced to 180 days in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for indecently assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

Mbachu was found guilty of fondling the girl’s breast. He also reportedly asked her to perform an oral sexual act on him(suck his manhood). However, he was acquitted and discharged on the charge of defilement.

The victim’s uncle, a businessman residing in Palladium, Accra, had gone to visit her father at their shared residence in Korle-Gonno. There he discovered the girl was missing. This was the time around which the factory worker’s act of indecent assault is believed to have occurred.

After asking around, he was informed by other children playing in the house that they had seen her entering Mbachu’s room. When he knocked on Mbachu’s door, there was no response. After a second knock, Mbachu opened the door and brought out the victim.

During questioning, the girl disclosed that Mbachu had touched her inappropriately and made sexual advances towards her.

The incident was reported to the police, and Mbachu was subsequently arrested and charged with indecent assault.

The case was led by Superintendent of Police Agnes Boafo. Then the matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit at Mamprobi for further action.

In an Accra Circuit Court, the factory hand, was sentenced to 180 days imprisonment as a punishment indecent assault.
