The Ghana card is gradually turning into the only valid form of identification in Ghana. Therefore, it’s crucial to be aware of various activities that require the Ghana Card as we bring to you some of the things you will not be able to do without getting your card in a list for.
List of things you cannot do without a Ghana Card
1. Financial Transactions
It is now required that you visit the bank or any financial institution regulated by BOG with your Ghana Card. According to the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Card is the passport to all transactions.
2. SIM Card registration:
To register your sim card in Ghana, you must possess the Ghana Card. Please be informed that without the card, you will not be able to register your SIM.
3. National Health Insurance Scheme
Management of the National Health Insurance Scheme have warned that in the near future, only the Ghana Card might be accepted for healthcare services. In their opinion, it will provide a practical way for all Ghana Card holders to have access to healthcare. For this reason Ghanaians are encouraged to link their NHIS and Ghana Cards right away.
4. SSNIT & TIN registration
Registrations for Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and Tax Identification Number (TIN) require the Ghana Card as well. This is very essential for enhancing the Trust’s business practices.
5. Driver’s License:
DVLA is another authority agency that requires the Ghana Card. They need the PIN on the Ghana Card of an applicant in order to issue a license.
The PIN is recorded on the driver’s license and vehicle registration documents of the bearer.
6. Voters ID registration:
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has made it clear that the Ghana Card will soon be the only form of ID needed for registering Voters IDs for the next general elections in 2024.
7. Student loans:
In June 2022, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia declared that students could now apply for loans without guarantors.
This is because, the Ghana Card gives all of the information needed about students to make a loan decision without requiring them to present a guarantor.
8. Business Registration:
Since the Ghana Card verifies the identification of the business owner, the aforementioned card is required to register a business in Ghana.
