Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is counting on all supporters of his fellow candidates to come together. Bawumia inspired NPP members to work together in order to break the 8 in the 2024 general elections.
The NPP flagbearer elect made this plea during his inaugural speech following his victory in the NPP’s presidential primary on Saturday. He spoke on the need for unity among party members. He validated the different aspirations within the party.
Dr. Bawumia plans to mobilize all party members to ensure that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains out of power. He views his victory as a testament to the NPP’s inclusivity.
Certified results disclosed that he had 61.47% of the votes, while Kennedy Agyapong, his closest rival, received 37.41%. The other two candidates, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh, received very fewer votes.
A total of 192,446 delegates participated in the presidential primary, with a 94.63% turnout. While Bawumia’s victory had been widely anticipated, he fell short of the 80% target set by his campaign team.
The politician aims to harness the collective energy of the party to get hold of victory (ie. break the 8) in the upcoming presidential elections and continue their reign.
