Alfred Obeng Boateng, the Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Ahnwiaso-Bekwai, has defended his recent remarks about financing the upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries in February 2024.
He expressed his willingness to support delegates in his constituency to compete with offers from his political rivals. Alfred Obeng mentioned a potential contribution of up to GHC20,000 for each of the 2000 delegates.
He emphasized that he had sufficient financial resources in dollars to equal or surpass his competitors’ offers.
In an interview, he explained that his intention was to pay more than what others might offer, not necessarily double the amount.
Mr. Alfred Obeng Boateng defended having money in dollars, asserting that it should not be perceived as hoarding or illegal activity.
He pointed out that the possession of dollars is not equivalent to having contraband items.
The parliamentarian clarified his statements. He explained that he meant it as a deterrent to potential competition, not an attempt to purchase votes.
He believed that his comments did not warrant investigation by regulatory agencies such as the Special Prosecutor.
His remarks highlighted his financial readiness for the upcoming campaign. He also expressed his dedication to garnering support from delegates in his constituency.
