On November 15, 2025, the Ghana Prison Service will begin accepting applications for the 2025 recruitment. There are senior officer and Junior officers role available with different categories and requirements. General Eligibility – Ghana Prison Service Senior Officer Recruitment
An applicant must:
- Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.
- Have completed his/her National Service.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be of a minimum age of 18 and not more than 35 years by 1st November, 2025.
- Must be physically and medically fit by the Prisons Service standard.
- Not bonded by any organisation.
- Not have been dismissed from any public service or any other employment.
- Must have a minimum height of 1.68metres (5ft 6inches) for Males and 1.57 metres (5ft 2inches) for Female.
- Should have an active e-mail account and a mobile phone number.
- Be ready to undergo paramilitary Training and other physical training.
- Medical professionals must have completed one (1) year post housemanship with a registered hospital or clinic.
Available Categories
1. General Duties
Prospect must have a minimum of first degree from an accredited university not below second class (lower division) in any of the following areas and a minimum of one (1) year post qualification work experience. Any additional qualification will be an added advantage.

Candidate must have at least possess Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), or Medical Doctor (MD) from an accredited university, and must be registered with the Medical and Dental Council.
b. Dental Surgeons
Applicants must at least possess Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from an accredited university and must be a registered member of the Medical and Dental Council.
c. Ophthalmologist
Applicants must at least possess MBBS/MD in Ophthalmology from an accredited university and must be registered with the relevant professional regulatory body.
d. Pharmacists
Possess BSc. Pharmacy (B. Pharm/Pharm D.) from an accredited university and must be registered with the Ghana Pharmacy Council.
e. Physician Assistants
Hold a B.Sc. Physician Assistant or B.Sc. Medical Assistant from an accredited university and must be a registered member of the Medical and Dental Council with one (1) year post qualification experience.
f. Medical Laboratory Technologist
Have B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited university and must be a registered member of the Allied Health Professions Council with one (1) year post qualification experience.

Have at least first degree from an accredited university not below second class (lower division) in Procurement/Supply chain management with one/1 year post qualification experience
7. Public Affairs
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least:
- First degree from an accredited university not below second class (lower division) in any of the following: Communication Studies, Public Relations or Journalism.
- A first degree from an accredited university not below second class (lower division) in any discipline plus a Diploma in Communication Studies/Public Relations/ Journalism.
- Previous work experience will be an added advantage
8. Statisticians
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least first degree from an accredited university not below second class (lower division) in Statistics or Mathematics with one (1) year post qualification experience.
9. Technical Officers
Have at least first degree from an accredited university not below second class (lower division) or its equivalence in the following areas:
- BSc Land Economy
- Building Technology
- BSc. Quantity Surveying and Construction Technology
- BSc. Construction Technology and Management
- Civil Engineering
- BSc. Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- BSc. Geomatics Engineering (Land surveying)
NB: Previous work experience will be an added advantage.
10. Religious Affairs
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must be:
a. Ordained Minister Or Chaplain
Have at least a first degree in Theology. Be of good standing in a Christian denomination approved by any of the following bodies; the Ghana Catholic Secretariat, the Christian Council of Ghana, the Pentecostal Council of Ghana or other recognized Christian Bodies.
b. Imam
- Have at least a first degree in Islamic Studies with an excellent Knowledge in Arabic.
- Be of good standing in a Muslim denomination approved by any of the following bodies, the office of the National/ Regional Chief Imam, the office of the Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission or other similar nationally recognized Muslim bodies.

NOTE:
For the Senior officer’s category apart from Medical Doctors, Dental Surgeon, Ophthalmologist, Pharmacist with (Pharm D) and legal officers as indicated in serial 5 & 6 (a-d that will be placed on the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP), all other graduates shall start from Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) after completion of training.
Basic Eligibility – Ghana Prison Service (GPS) Junior Officers Recruitment
An applicant must:
- Be a Ghanaian.
- Be of good character and without any criminal record.
- Be physically and medically fit by Prisons Service standards.
- Must be of a minimum age of 18 and not more than 32 years by 1st November, 2025.
- Must be of a minimum age of 18 and not more than 35 years by 1st November, 2025 (for artisans, tradesmen and professionals only).
- Minimum academic qualification of BECE with at least five/5 passes.
- Not have been dismissed from any public service or any other employment
- Be of minimum height of 1.68 m (56°) for males and 1.57m (5’2″) for females
- Be able to write and speak English fluently
- Have an active e-mail account and a mobile phone number
- Be ready to undergo basic Prisons training and other forms of training
- Not bonded by any organisation.
- Be registered with the appropriate professional body and hold a valid PIN(for medical category)

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must possess NVTI 1 &11 or Trade Test Certificate Il in Weapon Mechanic or Fitting with one/1 year practical work experience
NB: Having a license in Weapon Mechanic or Fitting would be an advantage.
6. Music (Dance Band & Regimental)
Applicants must possess at least Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate/COVET Certificate II/ NVT Grade | or Trade Test Certificate II/City and Guilds (Intermediate)/ or Proficiency in Basic Music (ABRSM) grade 4 and the following:
- Ability to sight-read musical notes.
- Ability to play Wood Wind or Brass Instruments and any other dance band Instrument.

In addition to the General Eligibility, all applicants must possess qualification as specified below with one/1 year practical work experience
