The Ghana Prisons Service is set to initiate a fresh recruitment drive starting August 7th, 2024, targeting eligible Ghanaian applicants who applied for service entry in 2021.
The available categories are General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen Recruits, Sports men/women Recruits, General duty Graduates and Graduate Professionals.
Basic Criteria:
Applicants must:
- Be Ghanaian citizens of good repute from birth
- Have no criminal history and must not have faced dismissal from any public sector or other employment.
- Meet specific height requirements: at least 5 feet 6 inches (1.68m) for males and 5 feet 2 inches (1.57m) for females.
- Satisfy the physical and medical fitness standards as prescribed by the Ghana Prisons Service.
- Be prepared to undertake basic Prisons training and other requisite training programs.
- Have been registered with the appropriate professional body and of good standing.
Junior Officers Category:
- Applicants must be between 21 and 33 years old.
- Sports applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old.
- General Duties: Minimum six passes in BECE including English and Mathematics, and at least five passes in SSSCE/WASSCE including Mathematics and English by December 31, 2021.
- Artisans: Minimum six passes in BECE including English and Mathematics, and a minimum of NVTI trade test certificate II or equivalent by December 31, 2021.
- Agriculture and Medical categories: Minimum five passes in SSSCE/WASSCE including Mathematics and English, plus a specific diploma or HND qualification.
Seniors Officers Division (Graduate)
Additional Requirements for All Applicants:
- Applicants must have achieved a minimum of six passes in SSSCE/WASSCE, including English and Mathematics, by December 31, 2021.
- Holders of a degree or its equivalent are eligible.
- Completion of National Service by December 31, 2021, is required.
- Applicants must be between 21 and 35 years old.
- Holders of specific academic or professional certificates in their chosen field from a recognized university by December 31, 2021, are eligible.
- Medical professionals must have completed one year of post-housemanship with a registered hospital or clinic by December 31, 2021.

Details Recruitment and Enrollment Process:
- Chosen applicants will be notified for the next phase of the process.
- This will be followed by physical selection and verification of all relevant documents, including birth certificates and academic certificates. Applicants who qualify will be informed at the screening center.
- Selected candidates will undergo medical examinations and comprehensive background checks. Vetting of certificates will be ongoing throughout and after training.
