The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has began a new recruitment process which starts on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, for eligible Ghanaians who applied to join the service in 2021. The divisions available are Graduates, professionals, tradesmen and recruit entry points.
Basic Eligibility:
- Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth and be without criminal records
- Have a good character
- Must not have been dismissed from any public service or any other employment
- Should be not younger than 18 years and not more that 35 years of age for Officer Corps applicants by 1st September, 2021
- You must not be less that 18 years and not more that 30 years f age for non-tradesman applicants and 36 years for Drivers/Mechanics by September 1, 2021
- Be physically and medically fit by Fire service standards
- Be a minimum height of 1.73m/173cm (5ft 8inches) for males and 1.63m/163cm (5ft 4inches) for female
- Have been in possession of a minimum of “A” level, five (5) passes in “O” level/WASSCE/SSCE including English and Math/ Pass in City Guilds Grade I & II/NVTI Grade I & II/GES Intermediate level/COTVET as at September 1, 2021
- Be ready to undergo basic fire service training and other forms of training
Entry Standards For Officer Corps:
- In addition to satisfying requirements in the general eligibility, applicants must have a minimum of first degree (at least second-class lower division) from an accredited university in the under-listed fields
- Engineers: Civil Engineering Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering. Electrical Engineering. Architectural engineering, or Building Technology from an Accredited Tertiary institution
- Forensic Scientist: Physics, Chemistry, Bio Chemistry or Computer Science from an Accredited Tertiary Institution.
- Transport and Workshop Officers
- Estate Officers
- Marketing Officers
- Accountants
- Human Resource Officers.
- Caterers/Hospitality
- Registered General Nurse (RGN): Applicants must have a minimum of a degree (at least Second-Class Lower Division) in Nursing from an Accredited Tertiary Institution
- Counselors: Applicants must have a minimum of a degree (at least Second-Class Lower Division) in Counseling from an Accredited Tertiary Institution
- Public Relations Officers: Applicants must have a minimum of a degree (at least Second-Class Lower Division) in communication studies, Public relations or journalism from a recognized school
- Lawyers: Candidates must have the following:
- LLB/BL from a certified institution
- Not more than 35 years of age
Recruits General Duties
Aside meeting the core requisites, candidates must satisfy the following based on departments:
- Firefighters and rescue crew must have:
- Five (5) passes SSCE/ WASSCE: including English language and Mathematics
- Four (4) credits in the Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Level Certificate, and a pass in English and Mathematics or ‘A’ Level or ‘O’ Level with credit in English.
- Tradesmen and Driver Mechanics should possess:
- SSCE / WASSCE, ‘O’/A’ Level, GES Intermediate Level, NVTI Grades I & II Automobile Certificate, City and Guilds Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or J.S.S Certificate with 10 years driving experience.
- Driver License D with a minimum of three (3) years driving experience
- IT Technicians: Professional Certificate in Software Development, Website Development & Maintenance, Database Administration from an approved establishment
- Painting and writing:
- GES (COTVET) Certificate Il in creative Arts Designs
- GES Intermediate Certificate Painting and Decorative Craft.
- NVTI Certificate Il in Painting and Decoration.
- Registered General Nurse (RGN):
- Certificate in Nursing
- Bandsmen:
- Regimental Band
- Able to play more than one (1) Instruments including Clarinets, Bassoons, Flutes, Alto and Tenor Sax.
- Ability to read the staff notations.
- Should be good at every aspect of Percussion.
- Dance Band:
- be conversant with all types of songs as Keyboardist.
- Must be able to sing all types of songs and back the songs as well as Vocalist.
- Should be familiar with all types of songs as Bass and Lead Guitarist
- Electronics/Auto Electricians/Electrical Engineering:
- COTVET Certificate II.
- GES Intermediate Certificate,
- City and Guilds Certificate in Electronics, Auto Electrician and Electrical Engineering
- Electrician:
- GES (COTVED) Certificate II in Electrical Engineering Technology.
- GES Intermediate Certificate in Electrical Installation Work
- City & Guilds Certificate in Electrical Engineering.
- Caterers/Hospitality:
- GES (COTVET) Certificate If in Hospitality and Catering Management.
- Ghana education Service intermediate Certificate in Food and Beverage Service.
- Radio Technicians:
- City and Guilds Certificate in Electronics.
- City and Guilds Certificate in Telecommunication.
- Record and archive keeper:
- Diploma in Archival Studies.
- Diploma in Records Management from an accredited Institution of Higher Learning.
- Refrigeration & Air-conditioning technology:
- GES (COTVET) Certificate II in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology.
- GES Intermediate Certificate in Refrigeration Mechanics.
- City and Guilds Certificate in Refrigeration Technology.
- Surveyors:
- GSSM Certificate in Surveying and Mapping.
