Tarkwa Circuit Court jails Samuel Implame, a taxi driver, for defiling a 10 year old girl in his cab. He is set to serve a 10-year jail term with hard labour.
The 20-year-old driver, Samuel Implame, admitted guilt to the defilement charge, resulting in his conviction.
Police Chief Inspector Joseph Lartey, leading the prosecution, provided case details. The victim, a food vendor, and her mother lived in Nankaba, while Implame resided on Cemetery Road in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
On August 22 of the same year, around 9:00 PM, the victim entered Implame’s Toyota Corolla taxi at Number Three, a Prestea suburb, intending to travel to Nankaba. Instead, Implame deviated from the route.
As the victim sensed danger, she cried for help. In response, the convict raised the car’s tinted windows to stifle her cries for assistance.
Around 11:30 PM, Implame took the victim to a secluded area at Enyinam. There, he forcibly removed her underwear and sexually assaulted her in the car.
Afterwards, he drove the victim to a location near the Ankobra bungalows. There he subjected her to another sexual assault in the cab.
Having believed he’d finished, Implame took the victim to her destination around 1:00 AM on August 28, before going into hiding.
The victim, in tears from the pain, narrated everything to her mother upon arriving home. Her mother promptly reported the incident to the Prestea police, who arranged for the victim’s medical examination.
A medical officer at the Prestea Government Hospital confirmed the assault. Implame was arrested by the police and claimed, during questioning, that the victim had consented to engage in sexual activity with him. The abandoned taxi was located by the roadside in Modern City, Prestea, and was seized by the police.
