Jonathan, a Ghanaian church Elder, has shared his story of how his gambling addiction cost him to lose Ghc 800,000 of his life savings and left him with a lifetime debt.
During an interview, the young leader described how he went from possessing three houses and a fleet of cars to losing everything, including his wife’s money, and owing over Ghc100,000 all because of sports betting.
The church elder disclosed this bitter experience of losing his life savings he had in an interview with Giovani on the 3FM Drive.
According to Jonathan, he was introduced to sports betting by a friend. Jonathan narrated he was an amateur who got lucky and won on his first attempt. He then got too much excited thinking that he could make easy money out of this venture.
“A friend introduced me to betting, and my first stake was Ghc 5000 and I had a profit of Ghc 3900” he said.
The church elder added that on his second attempt, he placed a bet of Ghc3000 and won Ghc5000. On the third attempt, he staked Ghc20,000 and won Ghc80,000.
At this point, he thought that was his breakthrough or gateway to get super rich because he never believed there was such an avenue to make him rich instantly.
Jonathan stated that his troubles began when he invested the total amount of money he earned on the third day and lost it all.
That was just the beginning, as he then borrowed money. He also utilized his life savings and company funds. He was ruined!
Now, he is a proponent preaching against gambling addiction.
