About YEA
In order to address the growing issue of youth unemployment, which was seen as posing a threat to national security, the Youth Employment Agency was founded as the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in 2005. It began operating under the Office of the President in October 2006 but had no formal legal standing.
To better serve the throngs of unemployed youth, the government decided to rebrand and reposition the Agency as a Public Service Organization. In October 2012, the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) was established and opened for business to replace NYEP.
