Company Overview

After the governments of Ghana (then known as the Gold Coast), Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia passed the West African Examinations Council Ordinances in 1951, the West African Examinations Council—a non-profit organisation with its headquarters located in Accra, Ghana—was founded in 1952. In 1974, Liberia joined the Council as its fifth member. A regional examining board to harmonise and standardise pre-university evaluation methods in what was then British West Africa was proposed, and this idea was strongly backed by the Jeffrey Report, upon which the Ordinances were enacted. Remaining Africa’s preeminent examining body, it offers trustworthy and high-quality educational evaluations, fosters moral and academic excellence, and supports international cooperation and sustainable human resource development.
