A North Korean Man has been Sentenced to Death Over Smuggling Copies of “Squid Game” in the Country.
North Korea sentenced a man who smuggled the Netflix series, “Squid Game” after authorities caught seven high school students watching the Korean-language global hit show.
Reports say the man had sold copies already at the time he was apprehended.
The man is alleged to have acquired a copy of the series from China and brought them into North Korea on flash drives. He is expected to be put to death by firing squad.
Not only the man is sentenced to death, but a student who bought a drive also received a life sentence, while the six other high school students who have watched the series were sentenced to five years of hard labor. Also, teachers and administrators of the school also faced the law. They have been laid off and asked to work in remote mines, a source said.
North Korea has made efforts to prevent the violent drama from spreading among people in the country. Despite the efforts of authorities, the Netflix most–watched series has already spread among people on flash drives and SD cards.
The arrest of the seven students is the first time the North Korean government is applying the novel “Elimination of Reactionary Thought and Culture” law in a case including minors.
The case of the North Korean Man Sentenced to Death Over Smuggling Copies of ‘Squid Game’ in the Country is quite sad and surprising for many people who have heard about it but thats the law that was set.
The Popular Netflix Series “Squid Game” is a Series from South Korea which means although Squid Game is popular around the world, it is not welcomed in North Korea according to their Law.
This is the reason why the North Korean Man was Sentenced to Death Over Smuggling Copies of “Squid Game” in the Country
