A 75-year-old Chinese man has shocked his family when he asked his wife of several decades for divorce after falling in love with an AI-generated woman.

Reports from Beijing Daily, a renowned Newspaper in China, indicated that elderly man who is identified as Jiang, discovered a AI character while scrolling on the internet. Jiang who is obviously unused to new age technology thought the character was a real person. The Avatar seemed like a beautiful young lady who was genuinely interested in him. As their interactions Constant grew, the man became attached and soon to fall in love. To technology savvy people, the artificial nature of the lady is very obvious. Her mismatched expressions and generic conversations gave her away. Unfortunately , the man couldn’t see through the illusion.

Over time, Jiang grew deeply attached to his digital companion and his daily routine began to revolve around his artificial partner. When his wife noticed this trend and confronted him about spending too much time on his phone, it turned out to be the last straw.  Shockingly, the man asked his wife for divorce so he can devote all his time to his newfound AI love.

When his children discovered what had happened, they stepped in immediately. They explained to their father how AI-created Avatars work and convinced him to let go of the illusion because the love he felt was not real. In the end, he came to terms with the reality and accepted the truth and chose to continue life alongside his wife.

Beyond technology, the story reflects the deep loneliness that some elderly people feel. With fewer social connections, many of them may turn to the internet for companionship, making them more susceptible to artificial interactions.
