The Danish Embassy in Accra is seeking a Finance Officer. The position is based in the embassy’s financial team. It requires a well-educated and energetic candidate, who independently can perform a broad range of tasks.

Key Accountabilities:

Budgets and accounts

  • Responsibilities within management, adjustments and closing of budgets. Close monitoring of budget implementation combined with hands-on bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly and in accordance with accounting principles.
  • Prepare, analyse and share financial reports, forecasts, and budgets to help with management decision-making.

Salaries and payments

  • Execution of daily operations related to payment of staff salaries, and expenses related to contracts with vendors, consultants as well as miscellaneous outlays.
  • Ensure payroll runs smoothly, staying compliant with tax regulations, and answering any payroll-related questions.
  • Handle VAT refund claims, making sure it is accurate and submitted on time.

Financial management of development aid

  • Underpin development cooperation activities, including handle financial transfers and secure financial compliance. Assists in opening project accounts, control mechanisms and project closures.

Contracts and tenders

  • Ensuring compliant contracts, tendering processes, and gathering of offers for larger procurements.

Internal financial control, compliance management and anti-corruption

  • Assist with various reconciliations, audit/financial analyses, settlement of expenses, outlays etc.
  • Support various operational tasks to ensure compliance, including procurement, vendor management and performing as focal point for banking relations.

Sustainability

  • Ensure that the embassy remains focused on securing sustainability and promotion of a green embassy. Commitment is to enhance energy efficiency and recycling as well as reducing consumption of water, electricity and fossil fuels.
  • The position entails approximately one annual trip to Denmark or in the African region for competence development and training.

Your Profile:

  • You are a careful accountant with a good understanding of bookkeeping and financial management.
  • Your proficiency in Navision accounting software allows you to navigate financial data with ease.
  • You have an understanding of payroll management, VAT refund processes, financial reporting, and you are looking to expand your expertise in operational excellence. You are reliable, discreet and ready to contribute to the smooth running of our embassy’s financial operations.

You fulfill the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Preferably minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance within an embassy, an audit firm or a management consultancy.
  • Software Proficiency in Navision accounting software.
  • Capable understanding of bookkeeping practices, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage.
  • Experience in management accounting or financial management, ideally in an embassy or international organization.
  • Understanding of VAT regulations and payroll processing.
  • Great at staying organized and managing multiple tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Discreet when handling confidential and GDPR sensitive information.
    Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). Knowledge of French (written and spoken) is desirable but not a requirement.
  • As a person you are a team player while at the same time capable of working independently and taking initiatives pro-actively as well as ensuring timely follow-up and delivery on deadlines.

Terms of employment

  • Full time contract (40 hours pr. week) under local terms and conditions.
  • 5 weeks paid leave annually combined with a flexible work scheme.
  • Mutual trial period of three months.
  • Based at the Danish Embassy in Accra, Ghana.
  • Salary will be based on the Embassy’s fixed salary scale reflecting qualifications, relevant experience, and proven work-related results.
  • You and your dependant family members will be offered health care insurance including coverage of medical expenses.
  • Employment requires security clearance by Danish Authorities (requires presentation of “No
    Criminal Record).
